New North Adelaide coach Jacob Surjan wouldn’t have expected to be recruiting Robbie Young back to Prospect last year.
After just 12 months and three AFL games with St Kilda, Young was surprisingly delisted due to the Saints abundance of small forwards.
But it has left the speedy 25-year-old hungry to pick up where he left off with the Roosters after playing a significant role in the club’s drought-breaking premiership in 2018.
Surjan is keen to harness Young’s blistering pace further up the field, flagging that the former Port Adelaide Magpie will spend more time in the midfield under his tutelage.
Incredibly evasive, Young loves nothing more than to run and carry the ball across lines while having a bounce, something Surjan will encourage when he dons the red and white again.
The left-footer’s knack of conjuring a clever goal is also something opposition coaches will be mindful about as Young looks to team with fellow indigenous forwards Jake Neade and Frank Szekely at Menzies Crescent.
Selected by SANFL Media Producer Zac Milbank, the 2020 Statewide Super League Top 50 is being unveiled one player at a time on the League’s website and social media channels.
Form across the 2019 season was used as a significant factor in the selection process, with those winning awards such as best-and-fairests, being selected in State squads and leadership groups also looked upon favourably.
Recruits to the Statewide Super League have also been included, with significant AFL experience another element in deciding the order of players.
