North Adelaide’s need for added speed resulted in the recruitment of former Hawthorn wingman Billy Hartung late last year.
But, in an ominous signal to the rest of the Statewide Super League, the 25-year-old is determined to develop his game further under Roosters coach Jacob Surjan.
Having made his name as an outside speedster with the Hawks and North Melbourne, Hartung is eager to enhance the inside aspect to his skill-set by starting in the centre square.
Featuring in 76 AFL games between 2014 and 2018, Hartung is keen to play at the highest level possible as he looks to reignite his career in elite company.
After managing 63 games for the Hawks in four seasons, including the 2015 Preliminary Final win, Hartung spent the 2018 AFL campaign with the Kangaroos, where he lined up in 13 matches.
Upon his delisting from Arden Street, Hartung played for St Bedes Mentone in the Victorian Amateur Football Association before transferring to St Kilda City for the second half of 2019.
Now he’s itching to test himself in the best State League competition in the land while wearing the treasured white V at Prospect.
Selected by SANFL Media Producer Zac Milbank, the 2020 Statewide Super League Top 50 is being unveiled one player at a time on the League’s website and social media channels.
For incumbent SANFL players, form across the 2019 season was used as a significant factor in the selection process, with selection in The Advertiser Team of the Year, West End State squad, club leadership group and placings in club best-and-fairest weighing heavily.
This is to ensure there is meaningful movement of player rankings between each year’s Top 50 list at the start and end of the season.
Recruits to the Statewide Super League for 2020 have also been included, with significant AFL experience, performance at State League level and their predicted impact proving critical in deciding the order of players.
