Sam Overall (South) v Max Proud (Glenelg)
After diligently playing his role inside 50m for most of this season, Overall sprang to life in Round 14 with a stunning display against North Adelaide. Of the strong-marking key forward’s nine marks, five were contested as he also hit the scoreboard with 4.3. His influence will need to be quelled by Glenelg captain Max Proud, who will be refreshed after being managed last weekend having carried a heavy load this season. Proud’s penchant for spoiling will be vital against Overall’s strong hands.
Joel Cross (South) v Matthew Snook (Glenelg)
Two of the best veterans in the competition could go head-to-head whenever Cross rolls through the centre square. While South’s co-captain now creates plenty of damage in attack during the twilight of his career, expect him to still have an influence through the midfield. This is where the dual Magarey Medallist will collide with Jack Oatey Medallist Snook, who has posted arguably his best individual season for the Bays. Both players love to get their hands dirty in and under, often farming the ball out to their younger teammates on the outside of the contest.
Jake Summerton (South) v Liam McBean (Glenelg)
McBean made a late charge for the Ken Farmer Medal in Round 14, drawing level with Eagle James Rowe after booting four goals in the win against Sturt. The Tigers spearhead provides structure in attack for his team but is surprisingly more at home with the ball on the deck than in their air given his impressive flexibility at ground level for someone standing 202cm. Summerton has enjoyed an extremely consistent season on the last line of defence for the Panthers, often wearing his opponents closely. The former Eagle is also a master at getting his hand into most marking contests which should enure McBean and his teammates have a tough day at the office with the expected wet conditions.
