SANFL wishes to advise that club delegates from the Mid West Football League on Eyre Peninsula voted last night to dissolve the league, effective immediately.
This follows last month’s decision by the Wudinna United Football & Netball Club and the Central Eyre Football Club, two of six clubs in the MWFL, to merge prior to the upcoming 2021 season and apply to transfer to the neighbouring Eastern Eyre Football League.
Several other clubs affiliated with the MWFL also have informally advised of their intent to move to alternate leagues on the Eyre Peninsula.
SANFL Head of Community Football Lisa Faraci said SANFL and Eyre Peninsula Football and Netball Council would continue to support the MWFL and impacted clubs to assist with club transfers to ensure everyone had the opportunity to play in season 2021 and beyond.
Ms Faraci said the decision to dissolve the League had not come easily and involved extensive consultation with club representatives and the wider football and netball community to ensure the best way forward.
“SANFL acknowledges the efforts of Matt Cook, Greg Scholz and other MWFL representatives who have worked tirelessly in recent weeks to identify options and find solutions to help ensure the future of football on the Eyre Peninsula,” she said.
The SANFL Community Football Committee will consider applications from clubs affiliated with the MWFL to move to alternate leagues at its meeting on Monday, March 15.
Further updates will be provided following this meeting.
