Round 6 Hostplus SANFLW Match Wraps

South Adelaide saluted star midfielder Nicole Campbell in fine fashion with an 11-point win against the Eagles in Round 6 of the Hostplus SANFL League.

Just the fifth player to reach 50 SANFLW games, Campbell was instrumental in setting up the Panthers’ victory after earning a game-high 23 disposals to go with her five marks, eight tackles and two clearances.

Fellow Panther Shae Archbold booted three goals, including the major to tie up the scores as the hosts kicked 3.0 to the visitors’ 0.2 in the final term.

Eagles skipper Annie Falkenberg and veteran Renee Forth each had 18 disposals while Mckenzie Dowrick and Jasmine Simmons kicked two goals each.

Central District produced the most stunning upset of the Hostplus SANFLW League season with a shock six-point win against previously unbeaten Sturt at Thebarton Oval.

Trailing at every change, the Bulldogs stormed home in the fourth quarter to boot 3.2 while holding the Double Blues scoreless.

Shannon Murphy’s goal put Central in front with less than five minutes to play as captain Shelby Smith (24 disposals and 11 tackles), Jovanka Zecevic (23 disposals and seven clearances) and Laitiah Huynh (22 disposals) contributed strongly.

Former Gold Coast Sun Georgia Bevan had a team-high 19 possessions for Sturt while Alysha Healy continued her habit of hitting the scoreboard with two goals.

North Adelaide positioned itself nicely inside the SANFLW top three with a percentage-boosting 62-point win against Norwood at The Parade. 

Establishing a 35-point lead at half-time, the Roosters’ miserly defence didn’t concede a goal until Redleg Celestina Dona kicked truly five minutes into the third quarter.

Silky-skilled North star Hannah Ewings kicked four goals to go with her 15 disposals and three tackles while former captain Jess Edwards was also prominent for the visitors with 24 possessions.

Norwood’s Lana Schwerdt continued her impressive 2022 campaign with 23 possessions, seven tackles and five clearances while Morgan Johnston, Sachi Syme and Tesharna Maher had 17 each.

Glenelg overcame a late scare from West Adelaide to register a comfortable 26-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

Leading by 19 points early in the second term, the Tigers suddenly had their advantage trimmed to just seven points when West’s Lucy Boyd kicked her team’s third goal 14 minutes into the third quarter.

But this stung the Bays into action as captain Ellie Kellock led admirably with 21 disposals, five clearances and two goals while Jess Bates racked up 28 possessions, 11 tackles and six clearances.

West’s Maddi Newman was a more than handy inclusion, producing 25 disposals in her first game of the season while Zoe Venning had 18 disposals and a goal for the hosts.
