Round 6 U16 Torrens University Cup Wraps

A monster performance from Central District’s Dyson Sharp wasn’t enough to overcome Woodville-West Torrens in Round 6 of the U16 Torrens University Cup at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Racking up a massive 44 disposals, 11 marks and five clearances, Sharp was well supported by team-mate Mitchell McDonald (38 disposals) but the Bulldogs succumbed to the Eagles by 23 points.

Trailing by four points at the main change, the Eagles produced a match-winning second half by booting 7.5 to 3.2 across the final two quarters.

Eagles ball-winners Jett Hasting (34 disposals, 11 marks) and Harry Dodd (35 disposals) were highly-rated, as was Tyler Welsh who booted three goals to go with his 20 disposals and 12 marks.

South Adelaide held on during a thrilling final term for a heart-stopping three-point win against Glenelg at ACH Group Stadium.

Leading the Tigers by 16 points at the last change, the Panthers managed to claim the premiership points despite only kicking two behinds in the fourth quarter while the hosts kicked 2.3.

South trio Cameron Woods, James Papworth and Dakota Sterzl (two goals) received high praise from their coaches.

Jack Walters (17 disposals), Harry Ramm and William Freckleton were high amongst Glenelg’s best players for playing their roles for the team.

Sturt managed to translate its inside 50m dominance into a 24-point win against Norwood at The Parade.

Boasting a commanding 51 to 28 advantage in the key statistic, the Double Blues also led the Redlegs in clearances by 36 to 22.

Prime Sturt midfielder Ned Atkinson won six clearances to go with his 23 disposals and a goal while Cameron Kelly and Kobee Dabinett (three goals) were also influential.

Norwood’s Jeff Rozenbilds led his side’s disposal count with 23 while Jay Polkinghorne booted three of his team’s 10 majors.

North Adelaide reaffirmed its place at the top of the U16 Torrens University Cup table with a massive 88-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

Now sitting nicely with a 5-1 win-loss record, the Roosters weren’t troubled by the Bloods, who were unable to score during the second quarter.

Tom Tasker (34 disposals, five clearances) and Blake Oudshorn-Bennier (25 disposals, three goals) played key roles in the victory for the hosts while Connor O’Leary booted seven goals.

West’s stronger performers included Ayden Hodgson (20 disposals, one goal), Xavier Mayes (16 disposals, two goals) and Fraser Morley (24 disposals).
