Round 8 U16 Torrens University Cup Wraps

North Adelaide consolidated its place at the top of the U16 Torrens University Cup ladder with an efficient 17-point win against Sturt at Wigan Oval. 

Now sitting nicely with a 7-1 win-loss record, the Roosters led at every change despite having one less inside 50 entry and nine fewer clearances.

North’s Owen Kalic was a significant influence on the outcome with 28 disposals, nine clearances and two goals while Josh Koster and Evan Bradley (23 disposals, one goal) were highly rated.

Sturt recognised Kobee Dabinett for his 23 disposals, nine tackles and nine clearances while teammates Jasper Maher (26 disposals, one goal) and Cameron Kelly (22 disposals, six tackles) were also effective.

Central District surged back into finals contention with a massive 124-point win against Norwood at X Convenience Oval.

In earning their third win of the season, the Bulldogs also built their percentage beyond 52 while coming within one win of fourth-placed Sturt.

Central’s Tallan Rosenzweig (22 disposals, four goals) was a difference-maker while teammates Conna MacKay (16 disposals) and Riley McDonald (27 disposals, eight tackles) were other fine performers.

On an extremely tough day at the office, the Redlegs lauded Oz Richardson, (22 disposals), captain Riley Kirchhofer (24 disposals) and goal kicker Anthony Mustaca.

The son of a former Crow was a key cog in Woodville-West Torrens’ comfortable 63-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

Exciting forward Tyler Welsh, whose father Scott played AFL for Adelaide and North Melbourne, was a clear best afield after kicking four goals to go with his 24 disposals and 13 marks.

Eagles teammates Lachlan Lucas (24 disposals, six clearances) and Jack Cook (23 disposals) also found plenty of the ball in helping their team settle into second spot.

West’s Noah Baker (22 disposals) and Campbell Marks (14 disposals, two goals) earned the praise of the Bloods’ coaching staff.

An aerial masterclass from South Adelaide’s Cohen Shortridge was a feature of his team’s 40-point victory against Glenelg at Flinders University Stadium. 

Rated as the best player on the field, Shortridge hauled in an eye-popping 18 marks to go with his four goals and 30 disposals.

Panther teammates Benny Barrett (33 disposals, two goals) and Phoenix Hargrave (27 disposals, 10 marks, one goal) were also extremely prominent.

Glenelg valued the performances of Kallan Bevan (19 disposals, one goal), Kobe Gibson (18 disposals, two goals) and Max Robertson (18 disposals).
