Rome Burgoyne, the youngest son of Port Adelaide premiership player Peter Burgoyne, played an instrumental role in Woodville-West Torrens’ 37-point win against Central District at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Racking up 27 disposals, five clearances and three goals, Rome Burgoyne, was selected as the Eagles’ best player as his team led at every change in the U16 Torrens University Cup match.

Teammates Brock Jamieson (32 disposals) and Logan Hughes (19 disposals, one goal) played strong support acts as the hosts claimed their seventh win of the season.

Central was well led by James Noack, Brodie Brooks (25 disposals, one goal) and Matthew LeRay (23 disposals).

West Adelaide hung on for a nail-biting two-point win against a desperate Norwood at The Parade.

Trailing by three points at the three-quarter time, the Bloods looked set for victory when Brock Vandeleur goaled to give them a 10-point lead in the 17th minute.

But a late goal to Norwood’s Max Barilla in the 21st minute ensured the visitors would be forced to scrap hard for their third victory of the 2022 campaign.

West’s Connor Johns (26 disposals) and Finn McArdle (four goals) were dominant figures while Redleg Charlie Lewis tallied 25 disposals and 10 tackles.

Glenelg’s inefficiency in front of goal curtailed its search for percentage as it banked a 10-point win against Sturt at Wigan Oval.

Registering a whopping 58 inside 50 entries to the Double Blues’ 28, the Tigers were unable to make it count on the scoreboard after tallying an inaccurate 9.19 (73).

The Bays’ Max Disbury was chosen as his side’s best with 24 disposals and a goal while Henry McKinnon (19 disposals) and Charlie McAuliffe (42 disposals, one goal) were also prominent.

Sturt’s Noah Roberts-Thomson was prolific with 32 possessions and a goal as teammates Fergus Kempe (16 disposals, one goal) and Harley Barker (17 disposals) lent strong support.

South Adelaide sent an ominous message to its rivals with a comprehensive 79-point win to poach top spot from North Adelaide at Prospect Oval.

In what loomed as an exciting battle between the competition’s top two, the Panthers turned on a clinic by banging on 7.3 to 1.2 in the first term before leading at every change.

South’s Oliver Goss was a distinct difference-maker with his 26 disposals and two goals while Clay Shadforth (four goals) and Brad Jackson (18 disposals, two goals) were also among the visitors’ 11 goal kickers.

North’s Owen Kalic tried his heart out with a game-high 33 disposals, nine clearances and three goals while Mitch Llewellyn added 32 disposals and five clearances to his stats sheet.
