Jake’s journey to 100 games

By ZAC MILBANK

Jake Summerton’s remarkable display of persistence to reach 100 Hostplus SANFL League games will finally reach its end at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.

South Adelaide’s dour defender certainly sees the irony in the match being against his original SANFL club, Woodville-West Torrens.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 30-year-old revealed that his League debut while playing for the Eagles in 2013 was in fact against the Panthers.

After playing in three consecutive Reserves premierships with the Eagles, Summerton has thrived at Lovelock Drive since being enticed south by coach Jarrad Wright at the end of 2017.

A key plank in South’s consecutive preliminary final appearances in 2020 and 2021, Summerton has used his teaching background to his advantage as a leader with the Panthers.

Specialising in PE at Seaview High School, South’s No.22 has regularly stepped in as acting captain this season in the absence of skipper Matthew Rose.
