South Australia has started its AFL U16 Girls National Championship campaign in fine style, recording a 32-point win against Victoria Metro at Arden Street in Melbourne.

Leading at every change, the Croweaters put the clamps on the Big V by keeping the hosts goalless in the first half while establishing a 22-point lead at half-time.

SA coach Bek McMahon would have been delighted with the performance of her key defenders, with Charlie Hazelhurst and Edwina Thornquest rated as the Croweaters’ two best performers.

Midfielder Emma Charlton was prominent while crafty goalsneak Matilda Wilmore and Taya Maxwell booted two goals each for the visitors.

SA will now prepare for its second and final match of the tournament against Western Australia in Perth on Sunday April 30.
