Key Match-Ups

Jesse White (Glenelg) v Peter Ladhams (Port)
Arguably the highlight of the Qualifying Final was Peter Ladhams’ sensational second-term goal on the run after gathering the ball at full speed inside 50m. The 202cm ruckman showed off why he’s earned a new long-term contract with Port after enjoying a breakout season. The 21-year-old will face a much more experienced opponent in Glenelg’s Jesse White, who has valiantly led his team’s ruck all season. White, who played 127 AFL games for Sydney and Collingwood, has amassed the competition’s second highest amount of hit outs this season while also using his mobile 196cm frame to cover plenty of ground. An exciting battle looms between Ladhams and the 31-year-old.

Luke Partington (Glenelg) v Cam Sutcliffe (Port)
Partington has produced an excellent 2019 campaign for the Tigers, resulting in him winning the SANFL Digital Pass Player of the Year Award. The former West Coast Eagles midfielder not only finds the ball to average 30 disposals but has also hit the scoreboard with 15 goals. He can expect plenty of attention from Magpies captain Sutcliffe, who has been used in shadowing roles at both AFL and SANFL level this year. After previously tagging Brisbane Lion Lachie Neale while playing for the Power, Sutcliffe ran with Adelaide’s Patrick Wilson in the Qualifying Final. The former Docker managed to quell Wilson’s output to an extent on Saturday and will look to do the same with Partington.

Liam McBean (Glenelg) v Trent McKenzie (Port)
Glenelg’s Ken Farmer Medal winner should be well rested after not playing in the final minor round match against Sturt as he hung on to SANFL’s leading goal kicker award. While McBean’s height could present a problem for McKenzie, it is the former Richmond forward’s ability to gather the ball at ground level which can catch opponents off guard. McKenzie is coming off arguably his best performance as a Magpie, hauling in 11 marks while also having 24 disposals in a composed display against the Crows in the Qualifying Final. And we all know how lethal ”The Cannon” can be with his driving left-foot kick.
