The South Australian Football Commission and SANFL wish to advise that former Woodville-West Torrens chief executive officer and club captain Luke Powell has been appointed to the Commission.
Mr Powell’s appointment to the vacant elected position follows the resignation of Commission member David Couzner, who after a short period on the Commission was appointed as CEO of the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club.
Originally from Geelong Football Club in the VFL, Mr Powell played 235 games for Woodville-West Torrens between 2003 and 2014, captaining the club from 2012 to 2014.
A SANFL Player Life Member and Woodville-West Torrens Life Member and Life Governor, he also represented SANFL at State level in 2006 and 2008.
Since 2020, Mr Powell has also been a member of the SANFL Competition Committee. In addition to his extensive football administration experience, Mr Powell owns and manages a successful building company.
SA Football Commission Chairman the Hon Rob Kerin said Mr Powell’s experience as a SANFL Club chief executive officer, combined with his strong business acumen, would greatly enhance the leadership of South Australian football.
“Luke has contributed significantly to the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club over many years and achieved much success for the club, both on and off the field,” Mr Kerin said.
“His passion for strengthening SANFL and football at all levels will contribute greatly to the Commission’s role to protect, lead and grow our great game in South Australia.”
Mr Powell’s casual vacancy term on the Commission runs until March 2024, at which time he will be required to be nominated for re-election.
