The SANFL team was proud to hit the road recently with Meals on Wheels SA to deliver meals to residents in the Enfield area.
Staff members from SANFL joined Meals on Wheels volunteers each Tuesday from September to December as part of a corporate volunteering program.
The initiative followed Meals on Wheels SA’s generous partnership of the SANFL History Exhibition held at the State Library of SA from June to November last year.
SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler said that just as volunteers were the heartbeat of community football clubs right across the State, so too were the many volunteers who supported Meals on Wheels every week to prepare and deliver nutritious meals to South Australians.
“We were extremely pleased to gain a greater insight into the tremendous work of Meals on Wheels SA and assist the caring volunteers at the Enfield branch,” Mr Chandler said.
“It was a really enjoyable and rewarding experience and we were proud to help make a small contribution with our time, as well as having the opportunity to meet Meals on Wheels clients, some of whom were SANFL footy supporters and enjoyed the social interaction.”
Meals on Wheels SA was the major partner of the exhibition, Our Footy, Our People, Our Stories, which was an overwhelming success with 52,000 visitors from across the State, Australia and the world.
“The exhibition’s success is reflective of the significant interest in the rich history of our great game which is very much a part of the social fabric of South Australia and we sincerely thank Meals on Wheels SA and all other partners for their generosity and support,” Mr Chandler said.
