Sturt is looking to continue its 2018 late-season surge when it begins its Statewide Super Women’s League campaign against reigning premier South Adelaide on February 15.
Preparing for their second season in the competition, the Double Blues were encouraged by the finish to their inaugural campaign which yielded three victories.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Sturt Women’s coach Danijel Herbut said this left officials at Unley with enough confidence to continue to promote talent from within rather than recruit heavily during the off-season.
Prolific midfielder Georgia Bevan is the club’s star signing after being delisted by the Crows’ AFLW side. Bevan will be available for Sturt on a full-time basis this year after previously appearing spasmodically in 2018 when not selected for AFLW duty.
The significant loss will be SANFLW Team of the Year ruck Jess Foley, who was selected by the Crows in the 2018 AFLW Draft, with mature-age tall Hannah Dreckow recruited from Mount Barker as Foley’s replacement.
Herbut has also earmarked young trio Zoe Prowse, Isabel Kuiper and Alex Ballard to display plenty of improvement this season, with the latter showing similar versatile traits to her brother Charlie at the Gold Coast Suns.
