2019 West Women’s League Preview

West Adelaide is aiming for its rapid improvement to continue in an upward trend when the 2019 Statewide Super Women’s League launches on February 15.

After suffering a winless season in the inaugural campaign of 2017, the Bloods displayed encouraging signs in finishing just outside of the finals last year.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, new West coach Shane Moon said the club’s decision to turn over its list and focus on junior development was paying dividends.

Despite losing SANFLW Best and Fairest Hannah Martin to Adelaide’s AFLW side, West has secured the services of outside runners Helen Maidment (South Adelaide) and Bec Owens (returned from pregnancy).

Two local basketball players in Leah Swain and Alice Gee have signed up to make the transition to Australian Football, with Swain to provide the Bloods with some much needed height in the absence of former captain Alli Evans, who is resting for the 2019 season.

Moon, who was caretaker coach for a four-game stint last year, will be assisted by Janet Bradley and Bloods premiership defender Daniel Caire, who has been quick to make his presence and experience felt on the training track.
