South Adelaide’s Liam Fitt has won the 2021 Channel 7 Goal of the Year, edging ahead in a field of four contenders.
With over 1400 votes from fans received in the past week, Panthers’ goalsneak Fitt was favoured ahead of Woodville-West Torrens’ Tyson Stengle, Adelaide’s Mitch Marini and Central District’s Travis Schiller for overall honours after their individual displays of brilliance this season.
Fitt didn’t waste time in producing his eye-catching goal, kicking an amazing checkside against the Crows at Flinders University Stadium in Round 1.
Tucked up hard in the scoreboard pocket at Noarlunga, the strongly-built left footer managed to curl the ball in from an extremely tight angle on the run.
Former Crow Tyson Stengle has been a revelation all season, producing two weekly winners, including his amazing effort against North on ANZAC Day. The crafty Eagles goalsneak managed to spin out of traffic after gathering the loose ball, feign a handball and dribble the ball through along the ground.
Adelaide development player Mitch Marini showed off his talent when he shrugged off a tackle, kept the ball inside the boundary line and baulked around an opponent before finishing from a tight angle.
Bulldogs ball-winner Schiller covers plenty of territory for his eye-catching solo performance, initially handballing the ball at half-back, receiving it on the win and taking two bounces before putting it through on the run.
