Quick ball movement and slick skills will be hallmarks of South Adelaide’s Women’s team under new coach Andrew Brockhurst in season 2021.
Given the nod to replace premiership mentor Rick Watts, Brockhurst is keen to harness the strengths of his squad to ensure they continue as one of the pacesetters in the Statewide Super Women’s League.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 56-year-old said he is well versed on the talent at Noarlunga having coached the club’s Under 15 development squad in 2019.
Brockhurst has also been closely following South’s Women’s League side with his daughter Emily beginning to flourish in the past two seasons.
Watts will remain at Lovelock Drive next year in a development role while Ben Coleman will act as Brockhurst’s lead assistant, focusing on the midfield.
A reliable player for South Adelaide between 1985 and 1993, Brockhurst managed 131 games for the Panthers while also playing 38 VFL matches for Fitzroy from 1988 to 1990.
He is keen to promote talent from within after the retirement of premiership skipper Lauren Buchanan and AFLW selection of Teah Charlton, Indy Tahau and Tahlia Meyer.
Versatile Sarah Wright is on track to make an impact in 2021 after missing this season with an ACL injury to her knee while the Panthers have enticed Soriah Moon from Glenelg.
Brockhurst guided Flagstaff Hill’s Women’s side to the 2020 Southern Football League premiership after acting as the A grade Women’s assistant coach at Christies Beach in 2019.
