Iconic SA brands team up for historic SANFL exhibition

Two of the state’s most respected names, Meals on Wheels and SANFL, are teaming up to showcase South Australia’s rich football history.

Local footy fans will be able to take a trip down memory lane when scores of exhibits stretching right back to when the league was established in 1877 are displayed at the State Library of South Australia from June 3 – October 16.

Meals on Wheels SA is the major partner supporting the SANFL History Centre exhibition which is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors.

Among the memorabilia will be photos, scrapbooks, trophies, guernseys, blazers, footballs, as well as never-seen-before videos and digitised content from SANFL events, match footage and presentations.

Meals on Wheels SA CEO Sharyn Broer said this was the first partnership of its kind for the volunteer-based charity and presented a great opportunity to team with an organisation that shares similar values.

“Meals on Wheels and the SANFL are much loved organisations steeped in history and part of the social fabric of South Australia,” said Mrs Broer.

“Nothing brings a community together more than the local footy and the weekend games are a main topic of conversation between our volunteers and customers.

“Many SANFL fans and past players have a deep connection with Meals on Wheels SA. They are the volunteers in our kitchens and delivery drivers as well as the customers we serve.

“This partnership will help extend our connection with the community beyond the nourishing meals and warm conversation we serve our customers. The exhibition will be enjoyed by our volunteers, customers, staff and South Australians more broadly.

“It’s also an opportunity to further increase awareness of the important role of Meals on Wheels SA as we’re always looking to recruit more volunteers to our team.”

SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler said SANFL was delighted to forge a new partnership with Meals on Wheels SA – an iconic South Australian organisation which shared a common vision with SANFL to connect people and communities.

“We are thrilled to have the generous support of Meals on Wheels to enable the SANFL History Centre to bring to life this significant event for both football fans and the broader community,” he said.

“This will be a great opportunity for South Australians to celebrate our game and the achievements past and present of the League.”
