Richard the Redleg

By ZAC MILBANK

Norwood has won the hotly-contested race to secure the services of Adelaide fan favourite Richard Douglas for season 2020.

With at least three other SANFL clubs chasing Douglas’ signature, the 32-year-old has opted to line up with the Redlegs after appearing in 246 AFL matches with the Crows from 2006 to 2019.

“Norwood is a proud, successful club with such a rich history,” said Douglas, who appeared in four SANFL matches with the Crows in 2019.

“I know Jarrod Cotton, Mark Ross, James Fantasia and a couple of the other boys I used to play with really well.

“But to get out on The Parade and play each Friday night with a good group that I think is going places is really exciting.

“Obviously I won’t be performing at AFL level, but I’m excited by the challenge and looking forward to being able to pass on my knowledge that I have gained over 14 years.

“But overall, I’m stoked to have signed with the Legs and can’t wait for 2020 to begin.”

Douglas’ arrival at The Parade comes after the Redlegs locked away former North Melbourne and Brisbane Lions midfielder Ryan Bastinac earlier this month.

The pair will form a potent centre square combination, together with established Norwood stars Mitch Grigg, Matthew Panos and Matthew Nunn in what looms as an exciting combination for the Woods Street faithful.

Having kicked 164 AFL goals in his career, Douglas is also likely to spend significant periods of time inside the attacking 50m arc for the Redlegs.
