North Adelaide held its place in third spot with a confidence-boosting 18-point win against Woodville-West Torrens at Prospect Oval.

Trailing by 10 points at half-time, the Roosters kicked 6.6 to the Eagles’ 2.2 in the second half to maintain their percentage edge on fourth-placed South Adelaide.

Jacob Surjan’s men had nine goal kickers, with Lachie Wilsdon the only play to boot multiple majors as the scoring load was spread around by the hungry hosts.

Aaron Young shone for North with 29 disposals, six clearances, four tackles and a goal while Magarey Medallist Campbell Combe and silky Harrison Wigg each had 25 touches and a goal.

The Eagles, who retain second place on the ladder, were well-served by hard-running pair Jimmy Toumpas and Kai Pudney with 26 possessions each while James Tsitas had 24 disposals and six clearances.

Former Crow Riley Knight returned from injury to collect 21 disposals, six tackles and six clearances for the visitors.

Glenelg managed to dig itself out of yet another major hole when it stormed home to defeat Norwood by 10 points at ACH Group Stadium.

Kicking just four goals in the opening three terms and trailing by 17 points at the final change, the Bays booted 7.3 to the Redlegs’ 3.0 in the final term to secure the minor premiership with their 15th consecutive win.

Jack Oatey Medallist Matthew Snook was outstanding in the middle with 28 disposals and 10 clearances as Dylan Landt collected 24 disposals and Matt Allen 22 for the Bays.

Glenelg coach Brett Hand moved his magnets around successfully to thrust Sam Durdin into attack and push Toby Pink into defence in the absence of co-captain Chris Curran who was a late withdrawal with a lower leg injury.

Registering 54 inside 50 entries to Glenelg’s 45, Norwood were the better team for the majority of the afternoon but failed to put their rivals out of the game with inaccurate kicking, finishing with 8.17 (65).

Emerging midfielder Josh Richards did a fine job with 25 disposals while veteran Richard Douglas kicked 2.2 from his 22 disposals as Henry Nelligan returned from injury to have 21 disposals and a neat snap shot goal.

Adelaide got the early jump on Port Adelaide to claim the SANFL Showdown by 13 points at Adelaide Oval.

Kicking the first four goals of the game, the Crows were able to answer every challenge thrown at them by the Magpies, who slipped a spot to seventh on the ladder.

Port came within two points when Joel Garner curled his set shot nicely from the boundary line 10 minutes into the final term but answering goals to Shane McAdam, Lachlan Gollant and James Rowe were enough for the Crows to secure victory.

Gollant produced arguably his best SANFL performance when he booted four goals from his 13 disposals and six marks while McAdam and Rowe, playing his first SANFL game for Adelaide, each kicked two.

Billy Frampton again impressed in defence against his old side, collecting 30 disposals and 13 marks while Lachlan Sholl regained some touch with 22 disposals and seven marks.

Prolific Port midfielder Sam Mayes racked up 34 disposals and 11 clearances to be his team’s clear winner on the stats sheet while Dylan Williams was a constant threat in front of goal with four goals and 16 disposals.

Magpies captain Cam Sutcliffe returned from a shoulder injury to have 16 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances.

South Adelaide’s second stanza propelled it to a comfortable 52-point win against Central District at X Convenience Oval. 

Facing a four-point deficit at the first change, the Panthers piled on 11.11 to the Dogs’ 3.3 across the remaining three quarters to earn valuable percentage in the race for a top three berth.

South’s teenage talent Jason Horne performed strongly to boot three goals from his 22 disposals, including a set shot from beyond the 50m arc.

Panthers’ defender Joseph Haines had 28 disposals, 12 marks and a goal while Bryce Gibbs tallied 26 disposals, seven marks and seven clearances in the win.

Much-improved Hayden Sampson thrived on the space at Elizabeth with 25 disposals and 13 marks for the visitors.

Central’s Kyle Presbury continued his career-best season with 31 possessions and nine marks while GWS Academy recruit Harry Grant had 19 disposals and four marks.

Sturt surged ahead of Port Adelaide in the race for fifth spot with a resounding 76-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

Now sitting in sixth place, the Double Blues leapfrogged the Magpies on the back of their comprehensive shutdown of the Bloods, who failed to manage a goal for the afternoon.

This sets up an intriguing battle between Sturt and Port in Round 17 at Unley Oval, with the loser unlikely to feature in September.

Sturt skipper James Battersby and emerging midfielder Casey Voss each chalked up 32 disposals while Abe Davis and Tom Lewis also had an influence in the midfield with 30 disposals, 11 marks and a goal each.

Steven Slimming, Anzac Lochowiak and Henry Carey kicked two goals each, with the latter slamming through a major from outside 50m featured in the clip below.

West premiership midfielder Kaine Stevens battled hard for his 31 disposals while Jordon Boyle had 30 possessions and 11 marks in a tough day for the hosts.
