Round 18 Torrens University SANFL U16 Match Wraps

Sturt denied Glenelg a spot in the top four by defeating it by 25 points at Stratarama Stadium in Round 18 of the Torrens University SANFL U16s.

Ladder-leaders since Round 2 and deserved minor premiers, the Double Blues always looked in control against the Bays having been in front at each break.

Sam White was terrific for Sturt, booting three goals while also gathering 22 disposals and four clearances, as teammate Louis Kellaway managed 23 disposals and a goal.

Glenelg, having missed out on finals qualification by just 0.53 percentage points to North Adelaide, had consistent performer Timothy Alver accumulating a game-high 33 disposals and a goal.

Central District got the better of North Adelaide at X-Convenience Oval to win by 13 points.

North held a slim lead at quarter-time, but Central took four-point margins into both the main break and the final change.

Two final-term goals to Bulldogs forward Cameron Nairn helped the his side gain the two points in a match between two finals-bound outfits.

Tall utility Dougie Cochrane was outstanding for Central, both through the ruck and in attack, gathering 35 disposals, 10 marks, 13 hitouts and two goals in a best-on-ground performance.

On-baller Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier was North’s most prolific ball-winner with 28 disposals and a goal, with teammate Charlie Dickeson booting two goals from 24 touches.

South Adelaide defeated Woodville-West Torrens by 12 points in a see-sawing affair at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

The lead changed four times throughout the game, but a run of four consecutive goals in the third quarter was enough for the Panthers to assemble a winning margin.

South’s Patrick Carman was the star up forward booting five goals, while Cameron Woods and Jesse Nye got the job done in the midfield.

Consistent duo Brock Jamieson (28 disposals, five marks and a goal) and Zane Peucker (24 disposals, six clearances and a goal) stood out for Woodville-West Torrens.

West Adelaide came from behind to claim a dramatic one-point win over Norwood at Coopers Stadium.

In a tight battle, with neither side able to kick away to a comfortable margin, the Redlegs led by 10 points at the 12-minute mark of the final term.

But two quick goals to midfielders Zanen Syrokos and Patrick Amber put the Bloods back on top and they managed to hold on until the final siren.

Syrokos and Amber were instrumental for the Bloods, accumulating 24 and 26 disposals respectively while having a big say on the match.

Jack Hayter did all he could for Norwood, collecting 36 disposals, 14 tackles and a goal, with teammate Darcy Speyer (28 disposals and nine clearances) terrific at stoppages.
