Glenelg ran over the top of South Adelaide to register an impressive 41-point win at Flinders University Stadium.

Despite managing just one behind in the third term, the Bays claimed the Carey-Darley Cup with a barnstorming final quarter which yielded 6.1 to the Panthers’ solitary behind.

Powered by classy left-footer Matt Allen, the visitors moved the ball well by foot while also applying plenty of pressure inside its attacking half.

Allen – who finished with 16 disposals, eight marks and two goals – was fittingly awarded with the John Schneebichler Medal as best afield.

Tigers livewire forward Lachie Hosie booted four of his five goals in the final term flurry while Toby Pink (16 disposals, eight marks) and Brodie Newman (17 disposals, eight marks) were superb in defence.

South was hampered by being down a rotation for the majority of the contest after Magarey Medallist Bryce Gibbs injured his thumb in the opening term.

Panthers midfielder Mitch O’Neill collected 23 disposals and reliable defender Joseph Haines tallied 24 possessions.

Port Adelaide was able to answer any questions Norwood asked of it en route to a fighting seven-point win at Alberton Oval.

Although the Magpies led for the majority of the afternoon, their advantage never extended beyond 16 points as the Redlegs displayed their desperation to avoid a 0-5 win-loss record.

Port development player Aidan Turner collected 18 disposals and burst through for an eye-catching goal in the second term for Port as Jase Burgoyne finished with 17 possessions.

Norwood’s dynamic rover Nik Rokahr fought hard for a game-high 25 disposals, eight tackles and seven clearances while Lowden tallied 18 touches to go with his late goal, together with co-captain Matt Nunn, who also had seven tackles and six clearances.

Central District survived a late scare from West Adelaide to hold on for an 11-point win at X Convenience Oval.

Leading by a commanding 40 points at three-quarter time, the Bulldogs’ only scores in the fourth quarter were two rushed behinds as the Bloods finally sprung to life.

The visitors had managed just two goals across the first three quarters before booting five in succession in the space of 14 minutes.

But Adam Hartlett’s men ultimately ran out of time as Central’s inside 50m count of 52-27 proved decisive across the match.

The Dogs had 21-2 inside 50 entries in the first quarter to set up the victory, former Gold Coast Sun Jez McLennan racking up 24 disposals, eight marks and a goal as he continues to lead from the front for Central.

Justin Hoskin and Mani Liddy each had 22 touches for the Bulldogs but ruckman Billy McCormack was the standout for the hosts with 21 disposals, seven marks, two goals and 26 hit outs.

Bloods bigman Hamish Ellem made the most of his recall to the League side to finish with 24 disposals, nine marks and a goal as Tom Morrish continued his hot start to the season with 24 disposals and two majors.

A second-term blitz changed the course of the match for Adelaide as it cruised to a 47-point victory against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval.

North had a stronger start to the contest as it took a nine-point advantage into the first break but once Crow Brayden Cook converted his nice chest mark at the top of the goal square, the visitors were already in front.

And from the sixth minute of the second term, the Crows wouldn’t let go of the lead for the remainder of the afternoon as they kept the Roosters to just one behind in the second quarter.

Adelaide led comfortably by 26 points at half-time before gaining valuable percentage in the dying stages of the encounter by booting the final three goals of the game.

Michael Godden got plenty of drive from his defenders as Andrew McPherson (29 disposals), Will Hamill (28 disposals) and Josh Worrell (25 disposals) all found plenty of the ball.

Patrick Parnell impressed with 26 touches and 10 marks while midfielder Harry Schoenberg was solid on his SANFL return with 22 disposals and a goal.

Strathalbyn forward Riley Clamp again caught the eye for the Crows with a team-high four goals as Lachlan Gollant booted three.

North was without late withdrawal Harrison Wigg but received excellent service from Magarey Medallist Campbell Combe with 26 possessions, eight clearances and nine tackles.

Roosters captain Alex Spina registered 25 disposals while Jake Patmore is enjoying his move to the wing, collecting 23 disposals and 10 marks.

Sturt has started the season with a 5-0 win-loss record for the first time since 1978 after earning a 22-point win against Woodville-West Torrens at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

The Double Blues opened with goals to Lachlan Burrows and milestone man Josh Hone after 11 minutes and were never headed as they announced themselves as the team to beat in the Hostplus SANFL League.

Marty Mattner’s men led by as much as 40 points entering time-on of the third quarter before the Eagles mounted a mini revival four of the last five majors before the final change.

But it was to no avail as the classy Hone – celebrating his 150th game – kicked the sealing goal, his third of the match, in the 14th minute of the fourth quarter.

Sturt captain James Battersby stood tall for his side with 28 disposals, 10 clearances and seven tackles while Tom Lewis also provided plenty of grunt with 21 disposals.

Fos Williams Medallist Casey Voss tallied 20 disposals while Connor McFadyen and Marty Frederick, facing his old SANFL side for the first time, had 17 touches each.

Hone, who kicked a memorable solo goal which began on the wing in the first term, and Oliver Grivell kicked three goals each for Sturt.

Without midfielders Kai Pudney and Riley Knight for the majority of the second half, the Eagles had giant Connor Ballenden provide plenty of resistence with 17 disposals, nine marks and five goals.

Eagles captain Joseph Sinor finished with 24 disposals while Jimmy Toumpas came back into the line-up to register 21 possessions.
