South Australia’s best female footballers aged under 23 will take centre stage for an exhibition match at Thebarton Oval on Sunday.
The SA U18 Girls team, preparing for its second game of the AFL National Championships, will test itself against a mature-age SA U23 line-up from 11am.
Coming off a convincing 35-point win against Western Australia in Game 1, the SA U18 Girls side features a host of top-end talent from the Hostplus SANFLW League.
Captain Piper Window, fresh from being crowned SANFLW’s fairest and most brilliant player in 2023, heads the list, together with West Adelaide star Lauren Young, Eagle Shineah Goody and Central District premiership players Elaine Grigg, Jasmine Evans, Sophie Eaton and Charlotte Riggs.
To be coached by Woodville-West Torrens mentor Narelle Smith, the SA U23 team includes members of the 2023 The Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year such as Tahlita Buethke, Caitlin Wendland, Zoe Venning, Isobel Kuiper and Lana Schwerdt.
After Sunday’s contest, the SA U18 Girls team will face Victoria Metro on Sunday July 9 at Avalon Airport Oval in Melbourne before finishing with a match against Queensland on Saturday July 15 at Adelaide Oval, a curtain-raiser to the Adelaide v GWS AFL game.
