Few SANFL players would be equally adept at winning a centre clearance as they would taking a strong mark from the goal square.
Or making a desperate spoil on the last line of defence for that matter.
But West Adelaide captain Tom Keough possesses the rare ability to do all of these things when asked by coach Gavin Colville.
The 28-year-old is one of the few captains retaining his place in the Statewide Super League and after visiting training at Hisense Stadium, it’s easy to understand why.
The 2015 premiership defender is a significant presence with his voice on the track, as evidenced in the preseason tweet below.
One of a select group to win a Fos Williams Medal (2015) as a defender, Keough also thrives on the great responsibility of knowing his performance can have a huge impact on the Bloods’ success.
Selected by SANFL Media Producer Zac Milbank, the 2020 Statewide Super League Top 50 is being unveiled one player at a time on the League’s website and social media channels.
Form across the 2019 season was used as a significant factor in the selection process, with those winning awards such as best-and-fairests, being selected in State squads and leadership groups also looked upon favourably.
Recruits to the Statewide Super League have also been included, with significant AFL experience another element in deciding the order of players.
