Torrens University SA U16 Defeated by Victoria Country

The Torrens University SA Under-16 Team has had its colours lowered by Victoria Country after succumbing by 16 points at the Gabba on Friday.

Finishing the U16 AFL National Championships with a 1-2 win-loss record, the Croweaters’ straight kicking for goal was unable to keep them in Game 3 for long enough.

SA captain Jason Horne, who was the equal leading disposal-winner with 18, was again influential on his way to earning his team’s Most Valuable Player award.

A member of last year’s victorious AFL U16 National Championship team, Horne used his experience and sizeable frame to strong effect while also booting two goals.

One of his majors was a key highlight of the afternoon when he snapped truly on his non-preferred left foot from the boundary line early in the second term.

Horne’s South Adelaide team-mate Matthew Roberts and Central’s Isaiah Dudley – the other two members of last year’s winning outfit – also had a positive impact for their team throughout the three-match tournament which kicked off with a win against Western Australia in Perth.

Key forward Luke Young (pictured in the main image above) threatened to be a game-breaker in the first half as imposed himself inside attacking 50m, booting his two goals.

But the Victoria Country boys had all the answers as they controlled the play for the majority of the second half, with only their inaccurate kicking for goal keeping SA within touch after the main change.

Glenelg’s Harry Tunkin worked hard for his 18 disposals coming off the interchange bench while Dudley laid a match-high 12 tackles.
