The Torrens University SA U16 team will kickstart its AFL National Championship campaign when it confronts Western Australia in Perth on Sunday.

To be coached by championship-winning mentor Julian Farkas, the Croweaters’ line-up features strongly-built Central District midfielder Dyson Sharp as captain with prolific North Adelaide ball-winner Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier as his deputy.

Rooster Sam Cumming, Woodville-West Torrens’ Jack Cook and classy Sturt left-footer Noah Roberts-Thomson round out the Torrens University SA U16 leadership group.

Cook, the son of former Crows and Central District rover Tim Cook, is among three sons of former AFL players in the team, together with Dougie Cochrane (son of former Port and Kangaroos’ midfielder Stuart Cochrane) and Louis Kellaway (son of former Richmond defender Duncan Kellaway).

Starting at 1.30pm SA time, the opening encounter will be played at West Coast’s training facility (Mineral Resources Park) ahead of further matches on Tuesday July 4 against Victoria Country at Heritage Bank Stadium on the Gold Coast and Friday July 7 against Victoria Metro at Fankhauser Reserve, Southport.
