SANFL is mourning the passing of South Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee Neville Hayes.
An inaugural inductee into the SA Football Hall of Fame in 2002, Neville played 217 League matches for Port Adelaide between 1953 and 1965.
An eight-time premiership player for the Magpies, the reliable defender was a key member of the club’s six premierships in succession from 1954 to 1959.
Affectionately known as ”Chicken”, Neville won two club best-and-fairest awards in 1957 and 1960 while also earning a place in Port Adelaide’s Greatest Ever Team.
Representing South Australia on 21 occasions, Neville – a Port Adelaide Life Member – was awarded SANFL Player Life Membership upon his retirement in 1966.
SANFL extends its deepest sympathy to the Hayes family as it honours Neville’s outstanding service to the game in South Australia.
